The River Mondego delta at Figueira, is very popular for rowing. The river can be accessed from the marina opposite the accommodation and from there it runs for around 8 km inland before it begins to narrow and turn. There are very few boats using the river and no problems with obstacles. We can help you arrange leaving boats securely overnight in the marina. The accommodation is ideally located to use as a base and training centre with access to the river and boats across the road at the marina. |

The rowing club is located just 10 minutes from the accommodation and is a very friendly and well equipped club who can provide prices for boat and launch hire upon request. If you bring your own boats, these can be stored in the locked and supervised boatyard area of the marina opposite the accommodation at very economical rates. The rowing club owner may be able also to store boats in the secure boat-house as shown here which is on a quayside just outside Figueira. |

Championship Lake
The town of Montemor-o-Velho is located just a few miles up-river from Figueira da Foz and hosts a 2km (international competition) rowing lake which will host the European Rowing Championships in September 2010.
The lake, shown below, hosted its first rowing race in 2002 (the Coupe de la Jeunesse) which will return in 2012. In addition to international events, the rowing centre hosts many national and regional regattas per year. Facilities are currently being added around the lake to support the 2010 European Championships.
Due to the refurbishment taking place around the lake it is currently not available but as the facility is booked well in advance, please contact us with your requirements if you are considering booking a training week later in 2010 or anytime in 2011. The lake can be seen on the right marked 'B' in the Google map below with the route shown from Figueira da Foz.marked 'A'. The River Mondedgo can be seen at the bottom and it carries on west (left) to Figueira da Foz - past the marina and accommodation. To the east (right) the river passes through Coimbra and up into the hills beyond.

Rowers are welcome to store, clean and dry equipment in the spacious storage area on the ground floor of the house. In addition to the boat storage areas at the lake, marina and rowing club, boats can also be stored in the ground floor of the house and there is a large carpark very nearby to park trailers and coaches overnight.
